The Stars Over Houston
Sunday, March 30th, 2008
One of the world’s top most visited vacation spots of all time is Hollywood California. Also on this somewhat impressive list is Nashville Tennessee and Las Angeles California. Why do you suppose these are such popular getaway destinations? Once you think about it, the answer is simple enough. These are the stomping grounds of some of the world’s most famous celebrities. For some reason, even though they are merely people like the rest of us, everyone is drawn to those with celebrity status. Unfortunately, actually seeing one of them in person, be it on the street or at a concert, is a very rare occasion. This makes the concept of visiting these spots rather pointless, as the odds are against you.
There is, however, one spot in the not so distant land of Texas in the state of Houston where stars can be seen on a regular basis. Although unbeknownst to most, Houston is a very active area for celebrities. This is largely due to the many concerts, popular shows, and attractions that feature the celebrities in question. There is almost always at least one show or performance within the Houston city limits that features a big star or celebrity of some type.
There are several celebrities that actually currently call Houston Texas their home. Two of the three original Charlie’s Angels cast members live here. Another popular actress that was born and raised in Houston is Renee Zellweger. Other stars and starlets with roots in Houston are Patrick Swayze, ex-President George Bush, Hillary Duff, Jennifer Garner, and even the superstar, Beyonce! This is truly the birthplace of the stars.
Of course, as celebrities in general go, the first place you will want to look for the stars over Houston is at the Houston Astrodome, home of the renowned Major League Baseball team, the Houston Astros. This team of sluggers and fastball hurlers consists of some of the biggest names in the sport of Baseball. It is far from uncommon to see one of these sports legends walking along the streets of the city or dining in one of the fine restaurants. The best thing about this team is that they are extremely friendly towards their fans. They are always willing to autograph a card or a ball for anyone who happens to notice them.
Another popular celebrity outlet in Houston is the Houston Toyota Center. Despite the name, this place is not an automobile dealership. In reality, it is one of Texas’ most popular celebrity performance sites. This huge auditorium has featured some of the most well known music celebrities of today and yesterday. Among the names that have been featured here are the Foo Fighters, the cast of American Idols, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Van Halen, George Lopez, and an endless list of more. This is the key spot for celebrity shows as well as sporting events.
This year, if you are going to gamble on randomly meeting a star on your vacation getaway, then look to Houston Texas, as this is where the stars shine all day long.

Is it Beneficial for a Celebrity to Reveal a Major Illness?
Tuesday, March 25th, 2008
Georgia Frontiere, the Rams owner, who died at 80 of breast cancer, is a recent example. According to her wishes, her illness was kept a secret by family members and team officials.
Deciding to reveal an illness can leave one feeling exposed and vulnerable. Having to worry about the added attention and press this kind of news can bring is especially difficult while battling disease.
It might seem obvious why a celebrity or public figure facing this decision would choose not to reveal a major illness. In addition to the unwelcome press, there are more reasons why a public figure might choose not to reveal their illness.
Being remembered for their work, not their disease is what most people desire. And, going public with a disease can be a career-ender, so many choose to keep their battles private.
It should be said however, that despite the difficulties in mentioning a serious illness to the public, great good can come from revealing it.
In the case of breast cancer, speaking about it publicly can help to raise awareness of the disease and encourage others who might be at risk to get screened.
One well-known sports figure, Lance Armstrong who just won his 7th Tour de France race, revealed having testicular cancer, even while his cancer had spread to his brain and lungs.
What is the reason these celebrities reveal their illnesses? I have a hunch it’s because the act of confessing is restorative. Clarity and a new purpose is often the end-result.
